DEAF VIETNAM PROJECT
 
On
July 1, 2005, Scott Benson, Frank Lester, Niñon Shrigley and Nick
Tanabe will arrive in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. They
will be working with Deaf Vietnamese students at Hy Vong 1 School for
the Deaf for two weeks.
This will be Scott Benson's 4th trip to help Hy Vong 1.
Scott has informed Madame Ngoi, the founder and head mistress, that for
the first time, he will bring a team with him. Scott also asked
Madame Ngoi for a "dream list" of ways that the team and the project's
supporters can help the school.

Our Fundraising Goals for this summer project
1. A four-day, three-night trip to the beach town, Vung
Tao. (This will be the highlight of the project.) The beach
trip will cost 22,000,000 VND ($1,650 USD) for 50 people. This
price includes bus, hotel, meals and visits to various places of
educational interest in the area.
2. 28 pieces of roller blinds for windows in two corridors
where the students eat lunch and participate in activities in the
afternoon. Each blind costs $26 USD. Total, 10,960,000 VND
($728).
3. A request to have the school painted. It has not
been painted in many years and is in great need. For materials
and workers' salaries, 26,000,000 VND ($1650).

The On-Going Fundraising Goals:
4. 15 hearing aids for students who either never have had
amplification or currently have aids that are broken and cannot be
fixed. Each hearing aid costs 3,500,000 VND (Vietnamese Dongs).
$221 each.
5. Tuition for 16 students. The tuition fee, $25 per student per month (6,400,000 VND), covers lunch and afternoon school.
